Built for outside

Built like a wall, used like a kitchen

An outdoor bar front or grill station takes more abuse than most building walls. It sits in the rain without an overhang, rests on a slab that moves with the seasons, gets hosed down after service and has grills, refrigeration and access doors cut into it. Many that crack and shed their finish were built like interior millwork and finished like a decorative wall.

For Newnan restaurants, apartment communities and condominium associations, we build these spaces as exterior construction. On a solid slab that usually means concrete block with stucco applied directly to the masonry. Where a lighter base makes sense, we frame and sheathe with cement board, then add lath and a cement-based stucco system. Openings for grills and equipment are framed to the manufacturer’s clearances, tops get a sloped cap or a counter with an overhang, and the base is kept clear of standing water.

We finish in colors and textures that match the main building or the brand, and we coordinate with the electrical, plumbing and gas trades who connect the equipment.

Picking the right base for the space

Concrete block is the most durable base for an outdoor bar or grill station. It does not rot, it takes stucco directly, and it handles the heat around commercial grills. It is heavy, so it needs a slab or footing that can carry it, which matters on elevated amenity decks.

A framed base with cement board is lighter and easier to shape, which helps with curved bars, long runs and decks with weight limits. If the frame is combustible, grills must be installed with the insulated jacket or clearances their manufacturer requires, and we plan the openings around that from the start. Load limits on decks and podiums are confirmed by the owner’s engineer or design team.

For existing features, refinishing is often the simplest option when the base is sound. We check before we quote and tell you if a crack or stain points to a problem a new coat would only cover.

Our process

Building around guests and residents

We schedule around service hours and pool seasons, and around the licensed trades, so gas, plumbing and power rough-ins are in place before a base is closed up.

Plan & lay out

We review the plans, confirm equipment cut-outs and clearances, and mark where licensed trades need to bring utilities.

  • Equipment specs reviewed
  • Slab & drainage checked
  • Written, itemized scope

Build the base

Block is laid or the frame is built and sheathed in cement board, with openings framed for grills, refrigeration and doors.

  • Square, level base
  • Openings framed to spec
  • Work area fenced off

Stucco & finish

Base and finish coats are applied and cured, the bottom edge is detailed to shed water, and the color is matched to the building.

  • Coats cured properly
  • Drip edge at the slab
  • Color & texture matched

Planning a patio or amenity upgrade?

Bring us in early. A base planned around the equipment and the deck costs less than one rebuilt later.

Questions & answers

Outdoor dining & amenity FAQ for Newnan

What Newnan restaurant owners and community managers ask before building or repairing an outdoor space.

Does an outdoor bar or patio wall need a permit in Newnan?
Often, especially when gas, electrical or plumbing is involved or the structure is substantial. Check with the City of Newnan or Coweta County, depending on the address. We coordinate our work with the licensed trades and inspections the permit requires.
Is design review required for a patio near downtown Newnan?
Visible exterior changes in and around the historic downtown may be subject to the city’s design review. Check with the City of Newnan before finalizing patio walls or finishes that face the street.
Block or framed construction for a bar front?
On a solid slab, concrete block with stucco is the most durable choice. Framed construction with cement board is lighter and can work on elevated decks or where weight matters. We recommend one after looking at the site.
Can you work while the restaurant or pool stays open?
Usually, yes. We fence off the work area, schedule around service hours or pool season where needed, and keep walkways clean and usable.
Do you install the grills and equipment?
No. We build and finish the stucco structure with openings framed to the equipment maker’s clearances. Licensed trades connect gas, electrical and plumbing.
